At the Rising North-East Investors Summit 2025, inaugurated in the presence of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, Our Chairman Anil Agarwal reaffirmed the Vedanta’s strong commitment to the region by announcing a landmark investment of ₹80,000 Crore. The investment, spanning accross key business areas including exploration, production, infrastructure development and social impact initiatives across Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Tripura, Meghalaya and Mizoram, holds the promise of generating nearly 1 lakh employment opportunities, fuelling both regional development and India’s journey towards energy self sufficiency.

Cairn has been spearheading large-scale exploration programs in the North East focusing on unlocking the vast hydrocarbon reserves of the region. Located in the Arakan Basin, Cairn’s presence in Assam alone covers a strategic expanse of 7,650 km², with 12 OALP (Open Acreage Licensing Policy) blocks and 3 Discovered Small Fields (DSF). We have already commenced production from the Hazarigaon DSF block, marking a significant milestone in its operations.

During the Summit, our Chairman engaged with several central and state leaders, including the Honourable Chief Minister of Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma. The Minister appreciated our continued efforts to strengthen the hydrocarbon ecosystem in Assam and applauded the company’s role in supporting India’s energy security.

Beyond business, we are also deeply invested in creating a positive impact on local communities and the environment. In Assam’s Golaghat district, we have established Nand Ghars and a Handloom Centre, empowering 200 women with skills that help them earn up to ₹15,000 per month. More than 1,000 students have benefitted from Cairn’s Digital Classroom initiative. Our partnership with Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve and Jorhat Forest Division continue to safeguard biodiversity. Additionally, we are also contributing to cleaner energy solutions by supplying gas to tea gardens in Golaghat, enhancing livelihoods for local tea farmers.
