In our Central Polymer Facility (CPF), polymer powder and feed water are mixed in a definite proportion to prepare polymer mother solution, which is further transferred to different well pads to inject with injection water for Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR).
Ensuring steady quality parameters of the mother solution is crucial before dispatch from CPF. Currently, lab sampling is only done 2-3 times a day and panel operators take corrective action based on these results.
Lack of visibility of polymer solution viscosity in real-time results in over or under-spec of polymer mother solution. Real-time viscosity measurement will enable timely actions, ensuring stable quality parameters.
It can also be used as feedback to the currently operating Advance Process Control (APC) for it to tune polymer powder supplying screw feeder frequency and feed water flow automatically.
To address this, the proposed solution is to install an online viscometer in one CPF train for a 3-month period and observe its effectiveness for real-time measurement.
A cost-effective execution of this Proof of Concept by taking the viscometer on a rental basis, has been planned to be executed via a start-up partner under the Vedanta Spark Program.
