At Vedanta, confined space work is recognized as one of the fatal risks. A confined space is an area with limited or restricted entry and exit that is not designed for continuous occupancy. Examples include tanks, vessels, silos, storage bins, hoppers, vaults, pits, manholes, tunnels, equipment housings, ductwork, pipelines, and deep excavations. Working in a confined space is hazardous due to the potential presence of toxic fumes, reduced oxygen levels, and fire risks. Therefore, the risks cannot be underestimated. Maintaining the highest standards of HSE practices, we have implemented specific confined space standards, guidance notes, and procedures to mitigate this hazard. Confined spaces at our workplace are well-identified, and safe work procedures are meticulously documented. Following the Standard operating procedures is crucial for working in these high-risk areas.
On May 9, 2024, a Confined Space Safety Campaign was inaugurated by Prakash Sharma, Construction HSE Manager Projects, along with the HAL Offshore Team. The mobile campaign travelled across RJ North Projects and Operations work areas, including OB Township, Mangala Processing Terminal and wellpads across Mangala, Bhagyam and Aishwariya fields. Approximately 800 personnel attended the safety awareness sessions held across the MBA field.
During the campaign, around 15 staff members and workers from various business partners were recognized with on-the-spot awards for their exceptional safe work performance and participation in the spot quiz contest. Ensuring confined space safety is a collective responsibility, and Cairn is committed to fostering a safe and secure working environment for everyone.
