Geology is best understood where it comes to life, in the field. To deepen their expertise and firsthand experience, twenty Cairn geologists embarked on an immersive five-day field class, exploring the ancient landscapes of the Jaisalmer and Barmer basins from February 24 to 28, 2025. This journey into Rajasthan’s geological past provided invaluable insights into the region’s rock formations, structural history, and resource potential.
The Jaisalmer Basin exploration focused on studying Middle Jurassic Jaisalmer Formation and Upper Jurassic Baisakhi-Bhadasar Formation outcrops, unraveling their historical significance and sedimentary characteristics. The Barmer Basin segment took geologists through Lower Jurassic Lathi Formation, Fatehgarh, Barmer Hill, and Dharvi Dungar Formation, offering a closer look at the basin’s tectonic evolution and hydrocarbon potential. Along the Jodhpur route, participants also studied the Ghaggar Hakra-Karentia Formation, broadening their understanding of the region’s geological framework.
Through detailed field observations, hands-on analysis, and expert discussions, the program strengthened geological interpretation skills, reinforcing Cairn’s commitment to scientific exploration and resource development.
