Every year on April 14, National Fire Service Day is commemorated to honour the 66 valiant firefighters who perished in the catastrophic blaze and subsequent explosion at our Bombay Port’s Victoria Dock in 1944—an event that resulted in extensive loss of life and damage.
The theme for Fire Service Week 2024 was “Ensure Fire Safety, Contribute Towards Nation Building”. Across Cairn locations, our HSE teams successfully commemorated National Fire Service Week from April 14–20, 2024. Various activities, including fire safety training, a Fire Safety quiz, a live firefighting competition, safety seminars, and webinars, were conducted as part of the campaign.
On April 19, a basic firefighting classroom session was held at OB-MPT in hybrid mode for a total of 75 participants, including Graduate Engineer Trainees (GETs) and young engineers, to raise awareness about the fundamentals of firefighting and emergency response. Following the theoretical session, a practical firefighting training session was conducted on the use of different types of fire extinguishers. Additionally, firefighting competitions were organised to provide a hands-on experience with firefighting, especially for the younger participants. Participants were given a tour of our fire tender and equipment to better understand their functioning and to appreciate the significance of the emergency response team and facilities.
Overall, the occasion of Fire Service Week serves as a reminder of the importance of best safety practices and reinstates our commitment to ensuring workplace safety for all our employees.
