At Cairn, we recognise that the preservation of nature is not optional, it’s essential. True to our sustainability-first vision, we marked the day by deepening our commitment to environmental stewardship. From integrating green technologies to empowering local communities with nature-positive initiatives, Cairn continues to place ecological responsibility at the heart of our operations, ensuring that progress goes hand in hand with the planet’s well-being.

Our journey toward sustainability is already showing tangible results. We are on track to plant 2 million native trees by 2030, with 792,000 already rooted achieving nearly 40% of our overall target, including crucial mangrove ecosystems. This year, 45000 saplings were planted during Vanmahotsav, with 3,500 more scheduled in the coming months. Endangered species conservation is also a priority with ongoing efforts for the Fishing Cat, Smooth Coated Otter, and Indian Spiny-Tailed Lizard, and quarterly awareness sessions conducted in nearby villages. Indigenous plant species like Guggal (1,500 saplings targeted, 150 planted) and Khejari (75,000 targeted, over 24,660 already planted) further reflect our deep commitment to local biodiversity. We’ve also mapped IUCN Red List species across our sites to better understand and address their endangerment status.

Conservation doesn’t end in the field, it starts with everyday choices. Through the 6R mantra, Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, Rethink, Refuse and Repair, we encourage mindful living. From repurposing packaging and repairing clothes to learning about native flora and fauna or simply turning your daily walk into a clean-up drive, small steps can drive big change. As we reflect on this day, Cairn remains steadfast in its vision of a greener tomorrow, championing both ecological balance and community engagement in every conservation effort.

Green Run at Mangala Processing Terminal
On June 5, the Mangala Processing Terminal came alive with the energy of the 5-km Green Run where employees and business partners ran in unison to raise environmental awareness. Emphasising our SUP-Free (Single Use Plastic Free) commitment, all participants received reusable cloth bags reinforcing the message to move away from single-use plastics in both professional and personal spaces.

Tree Plantation Drives across Operations and Communities
 In our continued effort to restore ecological balance, plantation drives were conducted across our operational locations and Barmer Nand Ghars. These drives symbolised our commitment to nurturing green spaces and safeguarding biodiversity contributing meaningfully to the planet’s ecological health.

Inspiring Actions at Nand Ghars
Our employees, along with their families visited Nand Ghars in Barmer to engage meaningfully with women and children. The visits included eco-themed games and drawing sessions, awareness talks on reducing plastic use and distribution of ‘parindeys’ (bird water feeders) and cloth bags. These activities promoted an environmentally conscious lifestyle rooted in practical action and community inclusion.

Channeling Creativity- Competitions and Challenges
Creativity took centre stage as we hosted poster-making and slogan-writing competitions for employees, partners and their families. In parallel, three environment-themed quizzes ignited curiosity and awareness.

Collaboration with Rajasthan State Pollution Control Board
 In collaboration with the Rajasthan State Pollution Control Board, we extended our sustainability efforts to the community. Student-led initiatives at the Cairn Enterprise Centre in Barmer involved distributing cloth bags and organizing a creative Best Out of Waste model competition. Students explored practical environmental solutions while reinforcing their understanding of eco-friendly practices.

Encouraging Community Action
At the Barmer District Hospital, 62 sanitation workers delivered impactful street plays and skits that stirred awareness about cleanliness and environmental responsibility. Our 7 Mobile Health Vans conducted plantation drives and awareness sessions with enthusiastic participation from stakeholders. Under the Barmer Unnati Project, we also hosted a painting competition and distributed gifts to children. To further promote sustainability, neem saplings were gifted to 50 families spreading the message of green living at the grassroots.

Together, we’ve taken meaningful steps toward a more sustainable future. Let’s continue to lead by example and make every day an opportunity to protect and preserve our environment.

The session delved into the pressing challenges posed by climate change and how Assam’s tea sector must adapt through innovation and resilience. A key focus of the dialogue was Cairn’s ongoing
partnership with Assam Gas Company Limited (AGCL), which has been supplying clean natural gas to
tea estates since 2023. This initiative is gradually replacing coal-based systems with a more sustainable
alternative reducing emissions, lowering operational costs and enabling a more efficient, sustainable
production process across the region’s iconic tea gardens.

Panelists included Ranjan Trivedi, Regional Head – North East, Cairn; Roopak Goswami, an independent
journalist known for his work on tea, welfare and development; and Rakhi Saika, Director of Arin Tea
Pvt. Ltd. Their insights painted a compelling picture of a future where Assam’s iconic tea gardens flourish
not just through tradition, but through transformation. As the conversation unfolded, one thing was clear:
when technology and heritage come together with purpose, change is not only possible, it’s already
brewing.

We believe that true progress is only meaningful when it uplifts the planet alongside people. As we push boundaries in energy production, we remain equally committed to preserving and enhancing biodiversity across our operational landscapes. Our ambitious target to plant 2 million trees by 2030 is well underway, with over 780,000 trees, including vital mangroves, already planted across Rajasthan, Gujarat, and Andhra Pradesh. In the forests of Gangli and Dhorimanna in Barmer, we have developed self-sustaining drinking water facilities to support wild animals year-round, especially during harsh summers.

In the fragile Thar ecosystem, we are reviving the indigenous Khejari tree (Prosopis cineraria), aiming to plant 75,000 by 2030, with more than 18,000 saplings already rooted and distributed in Barmer. We are also working to restore the endangered medicinal plant Commiphora wightii (Guggal), with over 150 of the planned 1,500 saplings already planted. Our avian protection efforts have led to the installation of safety covers such as MVCC, MVLC, bird caps, and spikes across 140 km of overhead lines in Rajasthan to prevent electrocution. Meanwhile, in the KG Basin and Rajasthan, we are actively supporting the conservation of endangered species such as the Fishing Cat, Smooth-Coated Otter and Spiny-Tailed Lizard by identifying habitats and fostering community awareness.

Our conservation footprint stretches from forests to coasts. In Assam, under ‘Mission Vanraksha’, we have partnered with Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve to support long-term wildlife preservation. In the Krishna-Godavari basin, we have signed an MoU with the Andhra Pradesh Forest Department and local administration to safeguard marine and coastal biodiversity. But protecting nature doesn’t end with us. From planting native species and ditching chemical fertilisers to choosing reusable items and carpooling, every small action matters. Let’s live in harmony with nature, not just today, but every day, because when nature thrives, so do we.

Every March 21, the International Day of Forests reminds us of the vital connection between forests, food security, and climate resilience. Forests, often called the planet’s lungs, are critical for nutrition, shelter, and a sustainable future.

Guided by our ESG goal of Transforming the Planet, we are dedicated to preserving this green legacy through afforestation and protecting sensitive species. By 2030, we aim to plant two million trees, enhancing biodiversity, restoring ecosystems, and offsetting carbon emissions. So far, we’ve planted 760,000 trees, including mangroves, 18,000 of 75,000 Khejari saplings, and 140 of 1,500 Guggal saplings. Through the Barmer Unnati Project, 511 wadis have been established, with 161 added in FY 2024-25 alone.

Small actions can spark significant change. Planting a tree, reducing paper waste, or composting food waste can create a ripple effect of environmental impact.

Forests are where life flourishes. This International Day of Forests, let’s unite to protect this green heritage and cultivate a sustainable future. After all, where trees thrive, we all prosper.

India, the world’s largest groundwater user, faces severe depletion, with 70% of its water contaminated. Government initiatives like Jal Shakti Abhiyan, Jal Jeevan Mission, and Atal Bhujal Yojana are steps in the right direction, but addressing the crisis requires more robust policies, sustainable practices, and active community participation.

Cairn is driving Net Water Positive impact through conservation, wastewater recycling, and rainwater harvesting, while supporting local communities in accessing clean water. More than 99% of our operational water needs are met through saline sources, significantly reducing freshwater consumption. Over the past five years, we have conserved 7 lakh KL of water, achieved an 85% recycling rate, and reinjected 96% of produced water back into reservoirs. Our 1,100+ rainwater harvesting structures in Barmer have created an annual storage potential of 2.17 million KL, reinforcing long-term water sustainability.

The need for action has never been greater. Fixing leaks, reusing wastewater, harvesting rainwater, and engaging in community clean-ups can all make a lasting impact.

World Wildlife Day, observed globally on March 3, serves as a powerful reminder of the need to protect our planet’s rich biodiversity. It marks the anniversary of the adoption of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) in 1973, reinforcing global efforts to combat wildlife crime and species decline. This year, the theme focuses on sustainable financing, highlighting the urgent need to bridge the $824 billion annual funding gap in global wildlife conservation. Effective conservation is not just about protecting species; it is about ensuring the health of entire ecosystems that support both people and the planet.

At Cairn, biodiversity conservation has been our core priority as we aim to achieve No Net Loss and a Net Positive Impact through a range of initiatives. By 2030, we have committed to planting two million trees, with over seven hundred and sixty thousand already in place. We have developed self-sustaining drinking water facilities in the hilly forest areas of Gangali and Dhorimanna in Barmer, supporting wildlife in these regions. Our team regularly conducts biodiversity assessments to create and implement effective conservation plans tailored to each ecosystem.

In Assam, we have partnered with Kaziranga National Park to protect iconic species such as the One-Horned Rhinoceros and the Bengal Tiger. Near our Ravva operations, we collaborate with the Andhra Pradesh Forest Department to conserve marine and coastal biodiversity. In the Thar Desert, we are revitalising populations of native tree species like Guggal and Khejari. Our efforts extend to protecting birds by installing MVCCs and insulated covers on power lines, along with replacing straight cross arms with V-cross arms to prevent bird collisions. We have also placed wildlife caution signs in key movement corridors to minimize human-wildlife conflict and ensure safe passage for animals.

As we celebrate World Wildlife Day, we call on everyone to be part of this collective mission. By preserving natural habitats, avoiding littering, minimising disturbances to wildlife, choosing eco-friendly and cruelty-free products, and reducing the use of single-use plastics, individuals can make a significant impact. Supporting afforestation projects, participating in habitat restoration efforts, educating others, volunteering for conservation programs, and making ethical investment choices that prioritise sustainability are all crucial steps towards a healthier planet. Together, through action and awareness, we can protect Earth’s most valuable assets and ensure a thriving, biodiverse world for generations to come.
