In a significant stride towards a sustainable future, Cairn has become the first Indian company to join the Oil and Gas Methane Partnership 2.0 (OGMP 2.0), a global initiative spearheaded by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).
OGMP 2.0 is a pioneering effort to reduce methane emissions from the oil and gas sector through transparent reporting and effective mitigation strategies. By joining this partnership, we have committed to aligning our operations with international best practices, identifying and mitigating methane emissions, and setting ambitious reduction targets.
A key aspect of this collaboration is access to the Methane Alert and Response System (MARS). This cutting-edge technology enables real-time monitoring of methane emissions, allowing for swift identification and rectification of leaks. By leveraging the expertise and resources of the global OGMP 2.0 community, Cairn will be able to implement innovative solutions and drive meaningful change. We have also set an ambitious five-year methane reduction target, with annual progress reports to OGMP.
This partnership is a testament to Cairn’s commitment to environmental sustainability and a significant contribution to global efforts to combat climate change. By reducing methane emissions, we are playing a crucial role in mitigating the impact of greenhouse gases and supporting the goals of the Global Methane Pledge and the World Bank’s Zero Routine Flaring initiative.
