In a landmark step under Mission Vanraksha, The Animal Care Organisation (TACO) has laid the foundation stone for 32 dedicated dwelling units for the courageous women forest guards – Van Durgas of Kaziranga National Park. This initiative builds upon the August 2024 MoU for the park’s high-tech surveillance centres and marks a new phase of support for those who serve as the first line of defence in preserving one of India’s most treasured ecosystems. These units are designed to offer secure, dignified housing that will not only improve living conditions but also enhance the Van Durgas ability to patrol remote terrain, prevent poaching and act swiftly during emergencies.

Kaziranga, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, stands as a symbol of India’s rich biodiversity and conservation legacy. Home to the iconic Greater One-Horned Rhinoceros, Bengal Tigers and Asiatic Elephants, it demands relentless vigilance from its forest protectors. With this initiative, TACO reaffirms its deep-rooted belief in empowering those who protect our natural heritage. More than a construction milestone, the foundation ceremony represents a commitment to strengthening conservation.
