The arid landscape of Barmer, once a challenge for farmers, is now blooming with hope. A ray of sunshine, the spineless cactus, has brought respite to the region’s livestock and farmers.
Kishor Singh, a farmer from Kau Ka Khera, is a beneficiary of this green revolution. As part of the Barmer Unnati project, he received 100 cladodes of nutrient-rich cactus. With its high mineral content and moderate protein and fibre, this hardy plant has proven to be a boon for his livestock.
The cactus, a gift from nature, has not only ensured the well-being of his animals but has also opened new avenues of income. Recently, the Rajasthan government purchased 5,000 cladodes worth Rs. 40,000 from farmers like Kishor Singh. This initiative has recognised the value of this indigenous plant and empowered farmers to contribute to the local economy.
Kishor Singh and his fellow farmers immensely thank Cairn CSR team for their continuous support. This project has provided them with a sustainable source of fodder and ignited a spark of hope, promising a greener and more prosperous future for Barmer.
