In a proactive effort to enhance emergency readiness, the District Administration of Barmer, led by Shri Nishant Jain (District Collector (DC), Barmer), and Shri Narendra Singh Meena (Superintendent of Police (SP), Barmer) conducted a live Emergency Preparedness Response & Effectiveness Check at Mangala Processing Terminal (MPT) Gate No. 1. This comprehensive mock drill, code-named ‘Nestanabud’, aimed to evaluate the response time and coordination of various agencies in the event of an emergency.
The objective was clear: to test the preparedness and joint operations of different forces, including the Police, Border Home Guards hired by Cairn, the Anti-Terrorist Squad (Emergency Response Team), Air Force, Army, Border Security Force (BSF), fire services, and medical teams. Observers included the DC, SP, and Brig B S Shekhawat (Director RJ Assets).
The scenario simulated an armed intrusion by 2-3 suspects at 1500 hours, who fired at security personnel at MPT Gate No. 1, causing chaos with a grenade blast. The Border Home Guards (BHG) swiftly responded, returning fire and pursuing the suspects to the MPT Reception Building, where they maintained surveillance and secured all entry and exit points. The ERT team, equipped with specialised tools, approached the building, neutralised the suspects, and declared the area secure.
The drill demonstrated crucial roles from different agencies: the BHG formed a cordon around the building, the ERT carried out the intervention, police teams ensured law and order, and administrative officials monitored resource needs. The Cairn Security Control Room acted as the focal point for information flow.
The Response Teams from various quick response units arrived promptly, ensuring a coordinated effort. During the debriefing, the SPemphasised the importance of coordination and joint efforts, highlighting the value of such exercises in improving emergency response strategies.
The mock drill “Nestanabud” concluded on a positive note, showcasing the tactical expertise of the Anti-Terrorist Squad and reinforcing our commitment to safety and preparedness.
