Cairn offices and sites buzzed with activity as teams celebrated World Environment Day with a fortnight of exciting initiatives! The theme this year was “Land Restoration, Halting Desertification and Building Drought Resilience,” and Cairn employees rose to the occasion!
RJ North Sets the Bar High
Tree plantation drives kicked off the celebrations at MPT Gate 5, attended by key site leaders, including Vinayak, Director – of RJ North; Brig BS Shekhawat, Director – of RJ Assets; and Capt Om Prakash, Head – of Security and Administration. Native species like Khejari and Ber were distributed to promote biodiversity.
An enthusiastic “Run for Environment” marathon, flagged off by Vinayak, saw participation from employees and partners, promoting healthy living and environmental awareness. It was followed by the distribution of eco-friendly cloth and jute bags to combat single-use plastic.
Furthermore, a Soil Health Testing Van was launched in partnership with Agricultural University Jodhpur. It will empower farmers with crucial soil and water data. Two biogas plants were inaugurated, showcasing Cairn’s commitment to sustainable energy solutions. Collaborations with the Agriculture Department of Rajasthan provided valuable information and resources to farmers on market linkages and government schemes. 26 vegetable seed kits were also distributed to promote self-reliance and healthy eating.
Cairn’s latest coffee table book, “Nesting Dunes—The Wings of Thar”, was launched, celebrating the Thar Desert’s unique birdlife. Two webinars were held on occasion with a focus on the importance of ecosystem conservation for a sustainable future. The celebrations also included Environment Day quizzes, webinars, essay writing, poster making, slogan writing, and photography competitions for employees, their families, and business partners.
RJ South
At our Gas business in RJ South, the site leadership, including Shailendra Kumar Jetley, Director of RJ South; Swapnil Sharma, Head of operations; Balakrishnan N, Head of Facilities and Projects; and Misbah Uddin Khan, CHSO Gas, commenced the celebrations by planting a “Khejri” tree. The event was marked by great enthusiasm and active participation from our business partners, L&T and Lakhya Power Tech.
A mass rally with employees and partners was held from Gate No. 2, RGT, to the Fire Station to raise awareness about environmental protection. The rally concluded with a pledge, which reminded participants of their roles and responsibilities regarding environmental protection and facilitated a culture of sustainability.
It was followed by a tree plantation drive that took place near the RDG helipad area, demonstrating a strong commitment to land restoration, combating desertification, and building drought resilience.
This was followed by an eco-friendly cloth bag distribution aimed at discouraging the use of single-use plastics. A plantation drive and Parinda campaign were held at Gram Panchayat Dabad Block in Gudamalani, which community leaders and CSR officials well attended to showcase our collective commitment to a sustainable environment.

Awareness sessions, competitions, and a plantation drive culminated in a felicitation program.

Senior officials from the Gujarat Forest Department joined Cairn employees and partners for tree-planting activities at Bhogat and Viramgam Terminals.

Tree plantation and a poster-making competition raised awareness on the East Coast.
Northeast
Employees and partners participated in a tree plantation drive at the Hazarigaon plant and Jorhat office. Community outreach included awareness sessions, quiz competitions, and prize distributions in nearby village schools.
