As temperatures in Barmer soar to a scorching 49°C, the extreme weather poses a significant challenge not just for humans but for the entire ecosystem. While we can seek refuge indoors, our feathered friends struggle to survive under the blazing sun.

Amidst this heatwave, Cairn’s environment champions launched ‘Beat the Heat’ initiative on the morning of May 17, 2024, aiming to provide relief to biodiversity we possess around our operational areas. The initiative focused on installing shallow water bowls designed for birds across our operational sites, including Mangala Processing Terminal, Start-Up Production Package, Sulphate Removal Plant, Central Polymer Facility, Aishwarya, and RJ South. The ceremonial installation was attended by key site managers and business partners, supported by our Environment Team.

After the installations, a pledge was taken to protect Barmer’s rich and diverse flora and fauna. We have also assigned dedicated personnel to ensure a constant supply of clean water in the bowls. With each installation, a sense of accomplishment grew as these little oases offered much-needed respite for the birds. This initiative marks the beginning of our summer-long mission to ensure no bird goes thirsty and to safeguard the health of our entire ecosystem. So far, over 500 Parindas (water bowls) have been installed across Cairn’s operational sites in Rajasthan.

The initiative aligns with our vision of Transforming the Planet and helps Cairn protect the biodiversity in and around our operational areas.
