In accordance with Cairn’s ESG commitment to achieve Net Zero Carbon by the end of decade, a decision has been made to install a preheater in the Gas Turbine Generator (GTG) to optimise heating time at Raageshwari Gas Processing Terminal, Barmer, Rajasthan. This initiative aims to reduce gas consumption and greenhouse gas emissions.
Previously, it took over an hour for the fuel gas temperature to reach 38 degrees celsius, which is essential for firing, resulting in continuous venting of approximately 0.12 million standard cubic feet per day (mmscfd) during each start-up trial. By saving an additional hour of heating, there was also a cost saving of $2200 per Gas Turbine Generator start-up. Currently, both GTG-A and GTG-B have been successfully started with a load of 15 MW using only the Heater inline, without the need to run the process heater up to Full Speed No Load (FSNL), and achieving the required temperature within 10 minutes.
