1. What ignited your interest in HR, and how has your professional journey influenced your leadership style?

My interest in HR was sparked by my background in economics and a desire to understand human behaviour. Throughout my career, I’ve encountered challenges that shaped my leadership style. When facing conflicts within my team, instead of resorting to authority, I facilitate open dialogue and mediation. We foster a culture of trust and collaboration through methods that value empathy and clear communication in leadership.

2. Maintaining a healthy work-life balance can be demanding. How do you integrate personal and professional commitments seamlessly, and what advice would you offer to people striving for a similar equilibrium?

I believe in an integrated work-life balance. It’s about prioritising both work and family, finding joy in both. For example, I recall a weekend when my family and I had planned a spontaneous trip to the countryside. Despite having work commitments, I managed to delegate tasks and enjoy quality time with my loved ones. My advice to employees is to communicate openly with their managers, set boundaries, and make time for activities that bring them happiness outside of work.

3. Within industries like oil and gas, which historically skew male-dominance, how do you navigate gender-related challenges and champion gender equality within your organisation and broader industry networks?

Navigating gender-related challenges requires a proactive approach to fostering inclusivity and equity. Implementing initiatives such as mentorship and training programs to promote gender equality within my organisation helps shape the leaders of tomorrow. Additionally, engaging with industry networks to advocate for gender inclusivity and supporting initiatives that empower women in traditionally male-dominated fields is necessary for a comprehensive workspace in the industry.

4. Beyond the boardroom, what passions or hobbies drive your personal pursuits?

Outside of work, I find joy in spending time with my family, watching movies, and staying informed about politics and current affairs through reading. A memorable family outing was when we decided to explore a nature reserve and bond over shared experiences creating lasting memories together.

5. Could you share a meaningful anecdote from your life that imparted an important lesson or insight?

Growing up, I learnt the importance of balancing studies and extracurricular activities. I witnessed the impact our individual efforts can bring about in the society when I volunteered to organise a charity event at my school. Despite facing logistical challenges and setbacks working directly with the community taught me the value of perseverance and teamwork. It highlights the belief that small acts of kindness can make a significant difference in the lives of others.

6. What valuable leadership lessons have you learned from your children?

They have taught me how one is never too old to be curious, resilient and embracing diverse interests. For instance, observing my daughter’s relentless pursuit of knowledge and my son’s unwavering determination on the football field has reminded me of the importance of perseverance. Their ability to adapt to challenges and pursue their passion wholeheartedly serves as a constant source of inspiration in my professional journey.
